2023 - The following is how the Shaw Centre describes my artwork on their web site.

"As you explore the centre further, make your way to our internal board rooms, where you will find more stunning art pieces created by Maurice Seguin among others.

Maurice, is a self-taught artist of mixed French and Anishinaabeg descent and has a natural talent for capturing the beauty of the land and nature through art. He has been painting since childhood, where he created works using discarded wooden boards and hand-me-down or home-made paints. His love for painting has guided him throughout his life. The earthy tones of his pieces create a sense of calmness and tranquility felt throughout the space."

Update: January 2022

This just in from a client to my daughter. 'Your fathers words and inspiration behind his work was uplifting to be sure." This comment warms my heart. I am truly blessed.

Other Comments:

There are a few kind words that I have received surrounding my artwork which stand out to me.

Someone else wrote "It's exceptional".

Also, its been said of my work in general, specifically of the landscapes that, in part, "the trees look alive".

Very powerful comments. Again, I appreciate those kind words.

Maurice Séguin, Artist

MAURICE E. SÉGUIN is a self-taught artist originally from “Mattawa, Ontario”. Descendant of French and Anishinaabeg Ancestors. He is grateful to be able to create work on unceded, occupied Anishinaabeg territory. Maurice has been painting since childhood; “I can remember having fun with colours, and how much of a challenge it was to create and how it made me feel. It just felt so right. Over the years my artwork has evolved, but the subject matter has been pretty consistent.”

He continues to create pieces that draw inspiration from his love for the Land and community; trees, animals, nibi (water). These pieces always carry a story while leaving space for the viewer's interpretation. Most importantly, he creates works influenced by his passions - culture, family, and language - to inspire action. “My goal has never changed, to inspire folks, young and old, to experience the Land and engage in conserving and preserving efforts -  for future generations.”

He currently resides in “Ottawa, Ontario” with his spouse Dawn. He is happy to receive comments, and can be reached on:
